Is it true?

The way you feel is completely valid, but is it true?

This is the question I want to pose to you today.

Recently, I’ve had a few experiences that have opened me up to new awareness about my emotions and beliefs. I’m seeing where I get caught emotionally and more importantly, what’s hidden underneath.

Here’s the thing, the way you feel is always true. It is a response to what you’re thinking and believing in that moment.

Your emotions will never lie to you, they will bring to the surface the truth that lays in the depths of your body, in relation to that belief.

Emotions are energy that is tied to your beliefs.

These emotions influence your nervous system and it will always respond to keep you safe. Your reactions are a window of awareness into the patterns you’ve naturally created to maintain that sense of safety.

As I continue to deepen my awareness of my nervous system responses, I see this over and over.

When we allow ourselves to feel the emotions, in a safe and supportive way, it helps ease the buildup that can form when we deny, reject, or avoid our feelings.

And when they build up… watch out! They will surface when you least expect it, and in ways, you may regret.

The emotions aren’t bad or wrong, they are life moving through you, responding.

Once you’ve found a safe way to honour, express, or move through your emotions and eased the buildup, then it’s time to look at why they surfaced.

What is the belief hidden inside the emotion?

This is where we have to critically look for the truth.

For me, I find I need someone to talk it out with, someone supportive and curious to help me find the truth I’m not seeing, because I’m stuck in the belief. On my own, I can swirl myself into a rabbit hole. Perhaps you can relate?

So, here’s what I’ve been reminded of and shown more deeply, which has brought me more healing.

That belief is old. It was created a long time ago, when we needed it to keep us safe, to essentially validate us. It is was important. It wasn’t wrong.

But now, we are here, we have grown, and as I shared last week, we have overcome a lot!

Yet those beliefs may not have shifted from the old story yet. Our neural pathways can run deep.

So now, we need to critically look at the underlaying belief. Is it true, today?

There’s often an experience that is similar to that old experience, that will trigger the belief. The mind is always looking for past patterns to keep you safe now.

But, it’s up to us to recognize what’s different now. Notice how you’ve grown and changed. How those around you are also not the same as those from the past.

This is the transformation point. You can continue to stay in that old story, or you can show yourself how it is different today and start to shift the narrative.

When you do, you’ll notice a shift in your body, your reactions, your heart, and your mind. It may not be immediate, but if you choose to work with it, soon, you’ll have a new truth and a new experience to guide you forward, instead of staying stuck in the past.
