The “Grounding” we actually need…

In recent years the focus of grounding has been related to connecting to the Earth, to feel the Earth frequencies, the Schumann Resonance, and helping our bodies to calibrate to this vital energy source.

Most of us walk around with our shoes on, made of rubber soles, which restricts the flow of energy from this energy field.

This is why people walk barefoot or sit on the ground, or buy grounding mats or sheets to help. Some, like me, enjoy “forest bathing” with is essentially spending time in nature. All of these practices support our physical body.

But grounding is more than just connecting with the Earth energy.

The grounding that we need today is more about being grounded in our bodies.

That means that we are consciously connected with our bodies… embodied, and not living only in our minds.

When we are disconnected and living in more our thoughts, we try to think our way through everything, but in doing this, we are only accessing a small part of our inner resources.

Then when life throws us off, we get worried or have uncertainty arise, if we get caught in our thoughts our habitual responses of our nervous system takes over trying to keep us steady and safe.

We may get distracted or dissociate from ourselves or our experiences. We may fight off what is happening, or find ourselves wanting to run or hide.

These responses aren’t wrong, but they were learned a long time ago. You can be more self-empowered now… and choose differently.

We have valuable resources in our bodies available to support these moments, but we need to feel connected to them, to feel grounded and supported.

By becoming aware of our body sensations to inform us, while using our breath to consciously calm us, and dropping our awareness more into our heart to listen to our needs, we are able to stay present with our body and feel what is happening. Then we can navigate and manage ourselves and life’s challenging situations with more ease, trust, and understanding.

So, we need regular embodied practices that help us to build awareness with how our body feels, and moves.

Practices like yoga, qigong, mindful walking or tai chi, but also interoceptive practices of body sensing and heart-centred meditations, or using sound frequencies to open sensation to the body can all help.

This means we are more connected to our physical, as well as our energetic and emotional bodies, and our mental body.

And as we find and establish this internal connection more frequently, we become embodied and grounded and make better decisions for ourselves because we sense, feel, and know what’s true inside.

So when life naturally throws us off, we have a new baseline experience to come back to.

This is the grounding we need more than ever right now.

With the destabilization and uncertainty of the world around us, we need to have an easily accessible connection to our grounded truth, to our whole embodied awareness.

As we come to feel, know, and trust this greater truth held within our bodies, we can discern more easily how to navigate our lives.
