Have you ever had a friend reflect something to you that you struggle to recognize in yourself?
Did you accept it or deny it? Did it get you thinking?
This is one thing I appreciate about the supportive friend group I have, many of whom are healers and practitioners too. They see me, challenge me to see myself, reflect what my heart needs, and encourage me to evolve into who I truly can be.
Because self-awareness is something I value deeply, I’m grateful to have relationships with so many beautiful souls who help me deepen this.
Whether it’s been a one-to-one conversation, group exploration, or personal contemplation, I find the more I discover about myself, the more I’m able to make conscious choices to intentionally move forward.
Over the years with this type of self-exploration, I’ve come to see how much my past influences my present, which in turn affects my future. Each time I gain more self-awareness, cultivate compassionate understanding, and support myself through empowered action, I find more peace with my past and engage more fully in my present.
Working with coaches and mentors, exploring with friends, as well as diving into my astrology and Gene Keys, has supported me in seeing my shadows and fears, discovering how to support myself through those uncomfortable moments, and open to my natural gifts and true essence.
I truly believe the more we can understand ourselves, build self-awareness, and support ourselves, the more we can actively choose our life direction from an empowered position, rather than a reactive situation.
For a long time, I was driven by the need to be liked by everyone. If someone expressed something that I thought was my fault, or I thought there was something wrong with me. I’d push away, isolate, and judge myself. It would leave me feeling closed off, but internally long for connection. Not an easy place to be and for a long time, I unconsciously made some unhealthy choices when I felt this way.
Through my personal work and guided support, I now understand this reactive response as a protection pattern. And I’ve been able to see it when it arises and gently support myself in new ways. Working with nervous system regulation and cognitive self-awareness, each time I gently begin to rewire my internal response, which in turn helps me stay more present and honour my needs rather than flee and try to forget.
This type of self-awareness creates confidence, empowerment, and self-trust.
The more we each meet our habitual safety patterns, see ourselves from inside and out, and intentionally choose our authentic path forward, I feel we’ll create a more content and peaceful world.
